2(1H)-Pyridinone, 5-(hydroxyMethyl)- - Introduction
2-hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpyridine (pyridine) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H7NO2.
Nature:
-Appearance: 2-Hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpyridine is a colorless or pale yellow liquid.
-Solubility: Soluble in water and alcohol solvents.
-Melting point and boiling point: the melting point is 14-18 degrees Celsius, and the boiling point is 196-197 degrees Celsius.
Use:
-2-Hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpyridine is widely used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used as a catalyst for esterification reactions, catalyzing the reaction of alcohols with acids to form esters.
-The compound can also be used to prepare pharmaceutical intermediates and pharmaceuticals.
Preparation Method:
-2-Hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpyridine can be prepared by a Kotropos-type condensation reaction of 2-hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpyridine aldehyde (aldehyde). The reaction needs to use sodium cyanide or hydrogen cyanide to treat 1-methyl -2-pyridine formaldehyde, generate 2-hydroxyl -5-methyl pyridine alcohol aldehyde, and then through catalytic hydrogenation reaction to obtain 2-hydroxyl -5-hydroxymethyl pyridine.
Safety Information:
-2-hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpyridine has low toxicity, but it is still necessary to avoid inhalation or contact with skin, eyes and other parts.
-During use, good ventilation should be taken and appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn, such as chemical protective glasses and gloves.
-Store in an airtight container, away from ignition and oxidizing agents.
